The Fresh Water Silver Ion (Ag+) Cartridge plays a vital part to keeping pure, near chemical-free water. This Silver Ion cartridge introduces silver ions (Ag+) into the spa’s water, inhibiting bacteria growth. Silver is both a bacteriostat – it inhibits the growth of bacteria (including on surface areas and in the plumbing lines) from ever getting started, and in some cases can act as a bactericide – when combined with minimal amounts of MPS or chlorine, bacteria are killed on contact. 
 
What is this Silver Ion Cartridge?  
The Silver Ion Cartridge is a thin plastic canister filled with silver ions that fits neatly under the filter cap of your filter. (shown at right) Depending on your package, you may have been given one when you purchased your spa. You can find out if you have one by unscrewing the cap on your main filter.  
 
How often do I need to replace this cartridge to maintain pure, bacteria free water?  
While most times there are enough silver ions in each cartridge to last over 3 months, after about 4 months of immersion the ions have all been released.
